The only way to forget about contacts and glasses is to undergo a laser eye surgery. The most popular and advanced procedure for laser eye correction today is Lasik, that stands for Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis. You can find a lot of ads on the internet, TV, radio and newspapers offering the latest technology, including ones by Dr. Boothe.

The main purpose of the Lasik procedure is to reduce the refractive error of the eye. During the surgery excimer laser carefully reshapes inner layer of the cornea. Lasik is perfectly able to manage such vision issues as hyperopia (farsightedness), myopia (nearsightedness) and astigmatism.

Another form of laser eye surgery is Excimer Laser Photo Refractive Keratectomy (PRK). Only 5% of the patients undergo this procedure, but in cases when the patient has thin cornea or other eye problems, this procedure is usually more suitable than Lasik. During the PRK surgery, the outer surface of cornea is changed with special ultraviolet beam. Recovery after this procedure can last a week.

When you decide to undergo any kind of laser eye correction, it is very important to find a surgeon with a lot of experience and great qualifications. A good surgeon must also work well with you and listen to all of your concerns. And, of course, the price of surgery should not play the main role in your decision making process.

There are many good laser centers and surgeons in the United States. One of the most called-for Lasik centers with the latest advanced equipment is Boothe Eye Care & Laser Center, which is located in Plano, Texas. In the beginning of the 90’s Dr. Boothe was one of the pioneers in the area to start performing Lasik laser vision correction surgery. Nowadays he and his professional staff of ophthalmologists offer laser eye correction procedures such as Lasik, IntraLasik and PRK. Officially, Board Certified Dr. Boothe is the nation’s most experienced IntraLasik ophthalmologist. He has already performed over 117,000 Lasik surgeries and over 69,500 IntraLasik procedures.

The importance of Lasik for laser vision correction can scarcely be exaggerated. This procedure is one of the most popular eye surgeries done today and considered as the main technological revolution in ophthalmology for the past twenty years. The vast majority of patients who have undergone Lasik are happy to realize that they no longer need to use glasses and contact lenses. This article will acquaint you with some basic information on this outstanding technique.

The word LASIK stands for laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis. This means a special laser is used during the procedure to modify the cornea. Surgeons who intend to perform such highly technical surgery require not only professional skills, but also have to meet with the approval of special organizations. The main purpose of a Lasik procedure is to correct refractive defects, such as nearsightedness (myopia), astigmatism and farsightedness (hyperopia). Dr. William Boothe from Plano, Texas, was one of the pioneers in the ophthalmology field who started to perform Lasik technology and received authorization from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in the beginning of 1990s. Only specially trained surgeons can perform this procedure.

During the Lasik procedure, surgeons use a special tool called microkeratome to create a precise corneal flap. When it is performed, the surgeon folds the flap to remodel the tissue beneath with an Excimer laser. The flap is then restored to its place with special care and left to heal without stitches. At the Boothe Eye Care & Laser Center, only the latest equipment is used for Lasik procedures, such as Intralase iFS Laser, Alcon LADARVision 4000, Allegretto Wavelight Eye-Q and the VISX STAR S4 laser systems. Dr. Boothe can also test your entire optical system with the newest technology called Wavefront Mapping.

Lasik is one of the highest technical tools used today. This new ophthalmological technology has many advantages. Patients are restored with good vision and minimal discomfort during and after Lasik surgery. Ophthalmologists often prefer to perform Lasik on their patients because side effects and complication possibilities are lower than traditional procedures. Patients themselves also feel safer and more relaxed.
